The college search sucks (but Avatar doesn't.)

Exchange news: zero. About a week-ish ago, I got an email from the president of my local Rotary club asking if I had been contacted by someone else and I said no and I haven't heard anything since. I'm wondering if I should email him again but 1: I don't know what I would say and 2: there haven't been any updates on the ESSEX website.

However, today was a pretty good day. Two of my friends and I were all obsessed with "Avatar: The Last Airbender" when it was on Nickolodeon, so naturally, we were all thrilled when we heard there would be a movie based on it. We were NOT so thrilled when said movie got absolutely terrible reviews from everyone. We decided to go see it anyway. $20 per person later ($8 tickets because we went at noon plus ~$25 worth of food altogether), we were in the theater with a whole 3 other people. And you know what? The movie was awesome. Honestly. I thought it was going to be really stupid, but it was AMAZING. I loved it. I really, really hope that they do the two sequels or I am going to feel really jipped. But everyone should go see it. Because it was wonderful. You might not really understand it if you haven't seen the show, but it was really good. I decided that if/when I go on exchange, I really would like to bring all 3 seasons of Avatar with me to watch.

I spent the rest of the day finishing up the first semester of my German class. Not counting my oral portfolio, which has not been graded, and not counting my final, which I have not taken yet, my average for the class is a 96. My oral portfolio is 20% of my final grade and my final is 20%. I'm pretty confident that my final grade will be awesome. After, I started my sign language class, which is so much harder than you would imagine.

Then, about an hour ago, my mom knocked on my door saying I had mail. Mom, it's 11:30. It would have killed you to give me my mail when it came, oh, 8 hours ago? Of course, it's stupid college junk mail. But it happened to be from Brown (I sent my SAT scores to them). You have to understand, my mother decided that I absolutely HAD to go to Brown when I was about 3. So this started a huge discussion between my mom and my stepdad about my inevitable enrollment at Brown. Hey guys, I hate to break it to you, but I don't want to go to Brown. Further, Brown would not accept me to their school if the fate of the universe depended on it. Look, I'm not saying I'm not smart. I get straight A-s (My only A was in Fashion Design. I made a skirt with dragons on it.), I got a 2100 on my SATs, I'm in the top 15ish% of my class, etc. But I'm not exceptional. I don't play a varsity sport and seven instruments and am the president of a thousand clubs and spend my weekends reading to needy children while simultaneously finding a cure for cancer. My hobbies include playing with play-doh, writing bad poetry, hula hooping and learning random phrases in obscure languages. This is, unfortunately, not Ivy League material. Otherwise, the Ivies would have a reputation as a really cool, fun, eccentric place. Not a giant contest to see who has a stick wedged the farthest up their ass.

I did, however, find great enjoyment in reading the brochure they sent me aloud in the most condescending, pretentious-sounding voice possible.
